Rowan and Michael
Intimate weddings are usually some of my favourites. There’s a sense of cosiness, of closely held beauty – like a secret of the heart.
Rowan and Michael had a meeting you study about in fairytales. “We met in Brisbane. We got together on 08.08.08, the night of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. We have considering that figured out that we had been both born in the identical hospital, in Glasgow, Scotland, 3 years apart and lived just about the corner from every other when we were little. We had been originally preparing on marrying in December 2010, but brought it forward when we found out we were expecting our daughter Isobel, who was born in January 2011.”
Making her Polka Dot Bride debut today is Natalie McComas who captures weddings so beautifully. Her photographs are organic although still capturing every detail of the day and the mood of the celebration.
Rowan wore a gown by Elizabeth De Varga altered to fit her blooming belly with shoes from Wittner. Her mother place with each other bouquets of native Australian flowers.
Rowan’s bridesmaids chose their personal dresses in dark blue.
Michael and his groomsmen paid homage to the Scottish heritage by wearing kilts hired from St Kilda Retail at Ipswich.
Rowan and Mike had been married at La Trobe Chapel in Paddington. Rowan says “ Latrobe Chapel is a renovated chapel, it does civil ceremonies like ours as nicely as religious ones.” Rowan walked down the aisle to ‘Eternal Flame’, by The Bangles (not as corny as it sounds).”
Rowan’s brother Euan (from Brisbane band “The Rooftops”) performed during the ceremony.
The guests were the highlight of the day for Rowan. “Mike’s family– parents, brothers and sister, had been able to come out from Scotland for the day, and we had loved ones and buddies come from Canberra, Alice Springs, Melbourne, Sydney. Having all our close friends and loved ones there created it actually special.”
Rowan and Michael held their reception at Eve’s On the River. Rowan says “Eve’s is on the river in Teneriffe, fairly close to our house in New Farm. We had a lot of our pictures taken in New Farm.” Rowan’s brother Euan’s girlfriend (who happens to be a stylist!) Nataly Lee styled the reception – from generating the three tier wedding cake to placing collectively the favours which were paper bags with basil seeds and wooden yoyos. Rowan’s mother in law added a unique touch. ” Mike’s Mum. Mary created tablet (Scottish fudge) to go in them also.”
Rowan and Michael danced to Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together” for their 1st dance. Rowan recalls, “It was the only dance of the reception – we didn’t have a dance floor due to the fact we just booked element of the restaurant.”
Congratulations Rowan and Michael on your wedding day and the birth of your baby girl Isobel! Thank you for enabling us to share your wedding day on Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to Natalie McComas for sharing nowadays’s photographs!
