Most people associate alcohol consumption with the unfavorable effects it has on the body. Slurred speech, memory lapses and falling down are all signs of drunkenness. These signs happen since of the way that alcohol affects various components of the brain and the central nervous technique.

Alcohol is inhibitory to the brain because it reduces brain electrical activity. Alcohol also increases the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in the brain. This will result in most of the tell-tale signs of somebody beneath the influence of alcohol. Aside from these unfavorable associations with drinking, alcohol increases the amount of dopamine that is developed within the brain. It is the increase of this chemical that final results in the pleasure a person feels while in the early stages of drunkenness.
