Moonlit nights have their own beauty. Imagine a beautiful evening with cool breeze touching the cheeks softly, sweet fragrance of evening blooming flowers spread in the air, a mug of coffee or tea steaming in your hands and your loved ones by your side. Nothing can be more beautiful, pleasing and  comforting than this right after a tough day at work. I find evening blooming flowers as an integral component of lawns and gardens. I have listed down a couple of of such enamoring flowers.

Evening Primrose (Botanical name: Oenothera biennis) is a plant from Onagraceae famiy origionaly indigenous to North America, but is now discovered in Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Australia too. The lovely yellow flowered is named Evening Primrose because the flower blossoms only at evening. The plant is popular medically. It’s seeds, leaves, oil of the seeds and root are utilized in medicines. Night-time insects like nocturnal sphinx moth pollinate these plants. The plant grows among three and five feet tall. The flowers are amongst .78 to two inches.

It’s name comprises of two words Evening and Gladiolus. Gladiolus is a word of Latin origin meaning sword. Dragon Fruit is native to Mexico and Central and South America. The fruit is also cultivated in Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia. They are also developed in Taiwan, Israel and southern China. It’s plant has lovely flowers which bloom at evening. The start blooming at 7 pm and reach complete bloom at 12 am. The beautiful large flowers give bloom against the green leaves, dark black background and along with the fruit and give a magnificent appear. The start blooming in October and continue blooming till May.

Epiphyllum Oxypetalum or Dutchman’s-Pipe Cactus, is a large floral range of cactus native from Mexico to Brazil. Plant can develop as tall as 20 feet (6.1 m) in height. It’s branches are dark green and it requires moist soil. It grows in late spring and early summer season, someplace about May 30th. It blooms for only 1-2 days. Person flowers can be up to 11 inches (27.9 cm) long and five inches (12.7 cm) wide. It opens as the sun goes down. It has a quite deep and fresh fragrance which spreads as soon as it blooms.

Ipomoea alba, otherwise recognized as Moonflowers are so referred to as because they bloom in the evening. They have big four to 6 inch fragrant, white or pink flowers on twining vines. The flowers open swiftly in the evening and final via the night, remaining open until touched by the morning Sun.

Moonflowers grow to a height of about 15 feet. The leaves are rather significant which makes it possible for the plant to be utilised as an annual in a northern garden. Propagation is usually by seed. The seed should be nicked with a file and then soaked overnight prior to planting. Moonflowers really should be planted when the Moon is new or growing in light!
